Total Eclipse and New Beginnings

V-Light is officially Austrian
“The happy “I’m Austrian” selfie” | Vienna, Austria

Hello my dear friends!!!

ย ย  Today is not just the total solar eclipse๐ŸŒ‘, or my 6 month anniversary of moving to Vienna ๐ŸŽ‰ but also….***drum roll*** officially my first day here as an Austrian citizen! If that’s not a reason to celebrate, i don’t know what it! Schnitzels are on me but bring your own beer please! XD

ย  I may have encountered various delays, terrible bureaucracy but i’m so thankful for the incredible support i received from my family and so, things are finally looking brighter! In the beginning of April, i will be moving to another apartment, still haven’t found one but staying positive it will work out! It’s not that easy to find good roommates, who don’t smoke, are not party animals and enjoy a clean house! Hopefully i can find something where i can stay for at least a year so i can have my peace of mind that i won’t need to move again so soon.

ย ย  How has the eclipse treated you? Supposedly it will bring a lot of changes…hopefully all good! Take care and lot’s of virtual hugs from me ๐Ÿป

Yours truly,

Alex V-Light

  1. Woho congratulations on becoming Austrian ๐Ÿ˜€

Speaking of bureaucracy, I had a look at the eclipse (through my camera and phone) before I had to go to Finanzamt to clear somethings out ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. Congrats, Alexandra. Now you have to write your posts in German, hehe. Wish you to find a wonderful flat and nice people soon, otherwise I will come down to Austria, hehe. (I’m clean, no party animal etc.) Have a wonderful Austrian week-end, regards Mitza

    1. Thank you Mitza! ๐Ÿ˜€ On my Facebook page i tried to write in Greek, to accompany my English, since i had many Greek fans…but i couldn’t keep up with that. English comes to me very naturally and i found that i could never express myself in the same way in another language…German would be a disaster!

      1. After having learned 5 languages there’s some sort hodgepodge in my brain and I cannot speak French anymore, always comes out Greek, hehe. There must be a screw loose in my brain. But you are still young and a little Austrian could be very charming.

    1. Dankeschรถn Stefan ๐Ÿ˜€ It’s really good news cause at first i thought that since i was coming from the European Union i had rights here but it turned out that it’s not like that at all…I was treated like a third world immigrant and received no support whatsoever by the services here. So i consider myself really lucky that i could claim the citizenship cause my mum is Austrian…

      1. I suppose, third world immigrants might be treated even worse, that you hopefully have been… It’s a shame sometimes… But of course I only can speak about the german officials… And of course it depends…
Have you been forced to lay down your greek citizenship instead?

        1. Yeah, i don’t know…It really surprised me cause i went into all the trouble of informing myself before i came here, cause i wanted to be “right” and do everything by the law, etc… and it turned out that i had no right in most of the things that i was supposedly entitled and i speak the language, not perfectly but i can make a conversation and be understood and i still encountered really big problems with the services here. I mean how is someone supposed to get things done, if he doesn’t even speak the language? I had to fill out some paperwork that not even native Austrians could understand…haha…go figure!!! No, thankfully i didn’t have to lay down my Greek citizenship, i have a dual citizenship now. I was lucky again cause a law concerning that, changed very close to when i was born…and i think that if i was born like a year before i would have to choose between the two…

          1. Lucky you! ๐Ÿ˜Š
Here around bilangual volunteers help the people to get things done… But you are right – it’s all very complicated. Even the officials themselves do not know how to handle things every time…

  3. Congrats, & Schnitzels are my fave meal ever!!! ๐Ÿ˜€ The eclipse was not well seen here (very cloudy that day) but my Mom saw it in special glasses she said was spectacular! For the papers, you were 1/2 Austrian already by family right, that is why was it so fast? (Usually stuff like that takes forever or is close to impossible..) Good for you, congrats! and have you thought of a small studio, even small but you’re on your own? I live on my own for a long time, so just wondering. Liebe Grรผsse ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you Monika ๐Ÿ˜€ Hehehe! Yes, you are right, i could claim the citizenship because my mum is Austrian. It still needed a lot of time, money and perseverance…At the beginning they said that i’m not entitled to it, then i needed more documents, then my name didn’t seem right…Long story short, i’m glad that it’s finally done! About the apartment search, i would also prefer to live alone but single studios require a deposit of at least 3 months worth of rent and you also have to prove that you have a steady income that is rated enough to sustain yourself…which i don’t have yet…So the only choice is a WG. I was really lucky with my first apartment and my 2 roommates…I’m keeping a positive vibe that i can be that lucky again ๐Ÿ˜‰ The goal is that when i start to make enough money, i would live alone ๐Ÿ™‚ In a bright and modern loft preferably…ahahaha ๐Ÿ˜€

      1. Hehe, gotcha! Congrats again and yay for the double citizenship! (I would do the same, not to drop where we were born..)
About the apts.. I live on my own since such a long time and in other countries too, I understand the “paper” things etc but! There will be always apt-owners, who will ask less of this & that and you will be sympathetic for them. Just have to run a few more circles than others.. think about it. It would not be right away a loft ๐Ÿ˜‰ hehe but why not, or of course a roommate-situation. (I did not have luck with those but yes for the apts, I have always found something.) As a traveler, I completely understand this situation, that is why my longer response ๐Ÿ˜‰ Viel glรผck PS: where is my Schnitzel!!! ๐Ÿ˜›

        1. ๐Ÿ˜€ I finally found an apartment yesterday, after visiting many that just didn’t click. It’s still very close to the city center, a nice bright room and my new roommate also seems really nice! ๐Ÿ™‚ Another thing why i wouldn’t consider an apartment alone is the cost…for example this is 390Euros for a 20sqm room and all expenses covered, heating, internet, everything. If i wanted something alone i’d have to go over 600, it’s just too much! Well, i feel so much better now that this is done, i will move at the end of the month ๐Ÿ™‚ PS: Your Schnitzel is being prepared by the best chef in Vienna and will be send to you with my private jet! XD

          1. Congrats, yay!!! You’re right about the fees though, but a higher free comes with the liberty ๐Ÿ˜‰ but both situations have + and – sides, so gotcha. Good packing (that could be a pain in the – – – too haha) and I thought U prepare it! ๐Ÿ˜› I LOVE Schnitzels all my life, born in Hungary so because of the Austrian influence (we were together before) or who knows but my other part of the family just always made Schnitzels (cutlet), that is totally my favorite meal ๐Ÿ˜€ no matter where I live ehehe (I travel since a long time now) In fact I cook, and often (yesterday even) made those too ๐Ÿ˜› Bon appetit!

            1. I hate packing….and i have to find someone with a car so i can actually move all my stuff! ๐Ÿ˜› Hiring a moving company is too expensive and i don’t have any furniture or big things…so a car with the back sits down is enough ๐Ÿ™‚ Hahaha, i see you have a big history with Schnitzels! ๐Ÿ˜€ My mum always made them in Greece, where it’s not a well know dish so i always felt special that i was eating something that other people don’t know here ๐Ÿ˜› I’m not a meat lover though and that’s why i can’t cook it by myself…I will gladly eat one if someone else prepares it for me but when i cook, i only do vegetarian dishes. The sight of raw meat automatically cuts my appetite…

              1. Oh I understand and yes somehow every kid seems to love Schnitzels? hehe
and you will find someone with a car yeah or a smaller truck even to share etc, there are options out there ๐Ÿ™‚ I know about the packing vs. unpacking.. haha

  4. Congratulations. Alex, or should I say Frรคulein Alex now. I read above that you also found a nice apartment. Good luck with your new beginning. I look forward to sharing it with you here.

    1. Dankeschรถn, Rich ๐Ÿ˜€ Yes, fortunately i found a nice apartment close to the center again and it’s mostly furnished so i don’t need to go and buy much stuff. I’ll be moving there in the next days and then i’ll have to put my ass down and start working on my photos again ๐Ÿ˜€ It’s really my pleasure to be able and share them with you! Have a great weekend my friend! Many greetings from Vienna!

  5. Aha! Who knew Austrians could be such a pain to fellow EU citizens! I don’t even want to imagine what they would do to third countries’ immigrants ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
I guess you will have moved by now – hope you do like your new place!

    1. Hello dear Mitza! I moved but unfortunately i had a few issues and again i couldn’t find something steady, i’ll have to move out in 2-3 months…It really took a toll on my mood cause i hate that feeling of uncertainty…that’s why i haven’t been online since after the move. I had to stay away and gather the strength to pick myself up again. Thankfully things are going better now and many issues have been resolved… I try not to think about the fact that i will have to move again soon… Hope you are doing well and enjoying the beautiful spring season ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. I don’t know about Mitza ๐Ÿ™‚ but I do enjoy spring, which this year, graced Brussels with lots of sun and mellow temps. Hope you do find somewhere to settle down for a while… In the meantime, look at the positive side: summer is coming, lots of lovely light for photos, getting to know new places and people… not so terrible living like a nomad for while!

        1. ๐Ÿ˜€ Hey Lia! I’m definitely enjoying spring in Vienna, weather is fantastic, even warmer than Greece! Everything is getting green and the colors are just amazing! ๐Ÿ˜€ It’s really beautiful, i’m out for photos everyday! I will start posting again…needed some time to clear my head and re-align, i guess! I’m back on the creative mood though ๐Ÿ™‚ And it’s been definitely a lesson for me, i’m one of those people who need stability in their lives, i need to know where everything is heading…and having to live in a totally opposite situation, has make me more tolerant and relaxed i guess…Cause i had to come to terms with the fact that i might not know where i’ll end up living in the next month, or how my roommates will be, everything is open… I’m starting to get the hang of it ๐Ÿ™‚ Many greetings from Vienna! ๐Ÿ˜€
