Heavenly Donau

Hello my dear friends,

Here is another perspective of the same sunset that is also depicted in my last photo “Duality“. This one was taken from a bridge, not water level and it was taken about 7 minutes later. The sky was changing every minute and i was running like crazy trying to get to different locations so i can take as many different shots as i could. You don’t get such a sky every day…

Duality

Hello again my friends,

Yes, it’s me again, so soon! Inspiration is back and how can it not be with these amazing skies that take over Vienna every evening?… It’s been crazy o_O

Yesterday, it was an amazing cloudy day from the get go, at around 7pm when i finally decided to go for a walk with my camera hoping to catch a nice sunset, all clouds had disappeared… I was almost ready to give up and go back home but still, i kept walking around aimlessly, cursing the clear blue sky for not being good enough for photos! At about 8pm, some clouds started to appear but still not enough to make it interesting. The sunset here is officially at 8:45pm, so i was hoping that until then the scenery might change…

So then the wind started to get stronger, the few clouds that were present started to turn dark, rain was coming! I put on my rain jacket and got ready for action! At 8:30pm the whole sky was filled with clouds and the sun was shyly giving away some warm rays as it started to decent on the horizon. I started to run in the rain to reach a good spot to take my photos. I thought going down to the water level might be interesting and but that took some time and by then it was already 8:40pm and the sun was giving away a last but stronger blast of beauty!

I was in the right place, at the right time! I immediately noticed, that right in front of my feet there was a fight going on between the warm and the cold, the day and the night and i was standing right in the middle… At 8:41pm, i took this shot and i can honestly say that it has been a really long time since i was so excited and emotional about a photo i took… So here it is… Nature’s masterpiece in all its glory!

Sunset in the Abyss

Sunset In the Abyss by V-Light Photography
25.06.2015 | A breathtaking sunset at Donauinsel, Vienna, Austria

Hello my friends,

I’m back with a darker image after all the gardens and the flowers. Lens distortion was left intentionally uncorrected as i feel that it gives an unsettling feeling and a sense of chaos.

Chaos, that is the right word to describe the whole situation that has been going on lately. Greece is walking on thin ice and what happens in the next days will not only determine the future of the country but of the whole European Union as well… My life has been pretty chaotic too, many changes, too many photos, not in the right mood to edit them and do them justice. Does that make sense?

I don’t know… I always feel bad when i realize i’ve been away from the WordPress community for a lot longer than i planned and i never seem to understand how it keeps happening. I recently noticed that my blog reached 20.000+ visits! :o And i would like to thank the people who keep coming back to check if i posted something new, even though i seem to mess up my schedule every time!

Uncertainty, i never dealt well with this lady… But she’s become my closest friend since i moved here, without even asking me. I’m still struggling to come to terms with the fact that i’m bound to keep carrying her around and eventually learn to ignore her as much as i can if i want to stay focused on what’s important and move forward in my life…

So, i might not know how long i can stay in this current apartment, i might not know if i will make it and win a place to study Graphic Design and Multimedia, i might not know when i’ll be able to visit Greece again, i might not know many things… but i know one thing… You just got to try baby…

And there was snow…

And there was snow by V-Light
28.12.2014 | Richtberg, Austria

Hello my dear friends,

As you probably already know, i spend my Christmas in upper Austria…and there was snow…a lot of snow! 😀 In the next days i will upload some of the photos i took there before we return to the usual Vienna posts. So this was actually my first contact with snow after many years of seeing none in Greece. You can imagine that i was ecstatic but also really not well prepared! Thankfully i had my uncle lent me some warm gloves, hiking shoes and gaiters (German: Gamaschen, i finally managed to learn that word!😂) for not getting all wet, cause the snow at some parts of the mountain was knee high! I was ready for some serious action!

And there was snow_2 by V-Light

It was still snowing relentlessly when we decided to go for a hike and while it was really beautiful it made taking photos very hard. I ended up taking most photos with my mobile phone (coming up on the next post) and only a few with my DSLR. My one and only Canon 60D is not really weather sealed so i couldn’t risk it. What do you use to protect your camera from getting all wet? Cause the umbrella sure didn’t work, with being windy and all that, my camera got covered in snow in a matter of seconds! I dared to take only a few shots, before putting it back in my backpack…but my uncle had enough time to snap a cool backstage photo 😎 Say, snowcovered-icy-cheeeeeeese!!!❆❆❆

Everything the sky is trying to tell…

Sometimes it can happen that you are on your way to do some groceries shopping, the sky is pretty plain but cloudy, you step in the super market, you take your time buying stuff, step out of the super market and suddenly you see this insane sky, with colors and shapes you never experienced before…

  What you do?

  • Option 1: Enjoy the sky as you carelessly get back home
  • Option 2: Take out your smartphone and get a lousy snapshot and tell all your friends on Instagram that it was really a lot better than the photo
  • Option 3: Just ignore it and make fun of all the other people who stare at the sky like they are on drugs
  • Option 4: Run like hell, i mean like your butt is on fire, get home, throw all your groceries on the floor (that gouda can wait), grab your camera, fly down the stairs and run like hell again so you can find some decent spots to take some shots before this insane sky disappears.

Obviously i took option 4 (although i’m guilty of option 2 as well) and therefore i present to you a slideshow of some quick shots i took while trying to catch my breath! Enjoy 😀

P.S. All photos were taken handheld and post-processed in Lightroom from a single RAW file, no HDR. What do you think?

I usually find comfort in the warmth of the sun and the calm of the water… What makes you feel better? Where do you escape when you feel stressed?

Sunrise over the mountains

Sunrise over the mountains by V-Light
Sunrise in Reindlmühl, Austria

Hello my dear friends,

It’s already been a month since i moved to Austria and i feel like a new person…There is no looking back or thoughts of doubt, it had to be done and i couldn’t be happier that i’m able to share it with you all.

This weekend i visited my relatives in upper Austria, Gmunden and Altmünster. I had an amazing time and it was really lovely to see them all again after almost 8 years. It’s been too long since my last visit in Austria, when previously we used to visit almost every year. It still feels surreal that i actually live in Austria now but the breathtaking nature and the smiles i receive everyday make it real.

Enjoy a panoramic view from the mountains in Reindlmühl area, it was really refreshing to wake up to this view for 2 days! I’m really lucky to have an aunt and uncle that live on the mountainside 😀 More photos to come!

P.s. Click on the image to view it in a larger size 😉

Donau Blue Hour

Donau Blue Hour by V-Light

Yesterday i was out and about at the Danube shores making a timelapse of some really cool clouds and sunset (coming soon) and i was so mesmerized by the beauty of it that i stayed a bit longer and then i experienced my first “blue hour” in Vienna… It lasted only a few minutes but it was enough to grab a nice shot 🙂 Minimal editing was done in this one, just a bit of contrast, sharpening and saturation…

Donau Sunset

Donau Sunset by V-Light

One of the first things that i loved about Vienna is the amazing nature that surrounds it. The Danube (Donau) river runs across the city and brings so much beauty to the urban environment. There is so much life around it and even inside…

My relaxing walk used to be at the waterfront of Thessaloniki, now my relaxing walk takes place here and i already received so much openness and positivity that i can only believe that things will be better from now on! 😀 One thing i won’t miss about Greece is the misery and the never-smiling faces… Here people say hello and smile at you without even knowing you! I suddenly feel like i’m the grumpy one cause i’m not used to this and i’m slow to smile back…but this is something that i can certainly get used to 😀

Hello from Austria!!!

Hellooooooo my dear friends… Long time no see…

This is officially my first post from Vienna, Austria! I’m really sorry that this took so long and mostly i’m sorry for being totally absent from the wordpress community…I really missed you all and it really frustrated me that I could not see your posts. I didn’t have an internet connection at the house that i’m temporarily staying and generally many things didn’t go as planned… One of the most annoying things that happened was that my computer had a problem on arrival and it took me 2 weeks to fix it…It turned out the graphics card didn’t like the Austrian climate and decided to call it quits causing constant freezes, driver crashes and even not letting the pc boot at all…

Only yesterday I was able to start editing some photos that I had already taken in my first days in Vienna and today i finally have internet. So V-Light is back in business! 😀 I’m currently on the search for another house and a roommate and at the same time searching for a job, as you can imagine all that without internet has been almost impossible. I’ve been spending my time at shopping malls using their free wireless internet with my smartphone…Oh well, it’s actually a good excuse for people watching…hehe…

Never thought that a move comes along with such a chaos…But things are falling to place and even though everything was greatly delayed, it is now moving forward… I am positive that very soon everything will be back on full speed and i’m really looking forward to see what I missed from you all and to share with you my news and photos from my new life here 😀

To everyone who participated in the “Art Sale for a New Life” campaign, i want to thank you once again and i hope you all got your prints by now, please let me know! 😀 More updates are coming in the following days…

So, here is one of the first photos that I took while exploring the neighboorhood 😀 A beautiful sunset at the Donau river, i can easily say it was magical…

Yours truly,

Alex V-Light

Sit back and enjoy the view…
