Hello my friends πŸ˜€

Β  The weather here has been very stormy lately but that was a great opportunity for me to take some new photos. I always found thunderstorms very fascinating and it would be an understatement to say that i’m not in love with them. My grandmother is terrified by them and here i am running outside with my tripod as soon as i hear a thunder πŸ™‚

Β  So last night it was a distant thunderstorm, i didn’t hear any thunders, i didn’t see any lightnings. I had reports from several of my friends who live in Thessaloniki that there was a storm there and i thought to check it out. From my balcony i could see some action in the distance. I began taking some wide angle photos but the lightnings were not strong enough to make the scene interesting so i decided to pull out a zoom lens and try to get closer to the center of the storm.

Β  After a while iΒ  realized the storm wasn’t moving very fast so i could predict where to focus and how to compose my shots. The heavy clouds most of the times covered the shapes of the lightnings passing through them but that created a very interesting light play.

Β  Most of my exposures are about 7-9 seconds long. In the first images that i did a longer exposure you can see the movement in the clouds which was not an effect i liked. As for post-processing i did add some saturation and contrast to make them more colorful and dramatic but the difference in color tones was there and that’s how this storm felt to me. I hope you enjoy πŸ˜‰

Into the light…

Into the light by V-Light
Self-Portrait, using only the available light coming from between the window shutters

Hello my friends πŸ™‚

Β  I was sitting on my bed trying to find some inspiration to create something, scribbling down not so great poetry and enjoying the silence. Then it hit me…A very bright ray of sunlight found its way between the closed window shutters. I have not taken a self-portrait for a very long time. I used to enjoy experimenting with all my crazy ideas on myself, i guess somewhere along the way i stopped finding my face inspiring…Well, that little ray of light made me think that maybe it was worth it to at least try and take a photo and see what happens…

Β  I placed my camera on the tripod, used a manual lens, the Helios 44M (f/2.0 58mm), i had to move back and forward trying to focus myself from the little i saw on the screen of my Canon 60D. It took many tries to get it right but i’m quite pleased with the result…You better like it cause i almost got blind trying to take it! πŸ˜› Hehe, all comments are welcome of course πŸ™‚
