Another SuperMoon tonight! Did you get to see it? I shot a little timelapse again but i still think last year’s was the best! Maybe August’s SuperMoon will be a better contender… I’m starting to think they ended up naming each typical full moon a supermoon just to make a fuss about it. Not impressed here…
The weather here has been very stormy lately but that was a great opportunity for me to take some new photos. I always found thunderstorms very fascinating and it would be an understatement to say that i’m not in love with them. My grandmother is terrified by them and here i am running outside with my tripod as soon as i hear a thunder 🙂
So last night it was a distant thunderstorm, i didn’t hear any thunders, i didn’t see any lightnings. I had reports from several of my friends who live in Thessaloniki that there was a storm there and i thought to check it out. From my balcony i could see some action in the distance. I began taking some wide angle photos but the lightnings were not strong enough to make the scene interesting so i decided to pull out a zoom lens and try to get closer to the center of the storm.
After a while i realized the storm wasn’t moving very fast so i could predict where to focus and how to compose my shots. The heavy clouds most of the times covered the shapes of the lightnings passing through them but that created a very interesting light play.
Most of my exposures are about 7-9 seconds long. In the first images that i did a longer exposure you can see the movement in the clouds which was not an effect i liked. As for post-processing i did add some saturation and contrast to make them more colorful and dramatic but the difference in color tones was there and that’s how this storm felt to me. I hope you enjoy 😉
Did you get to experience the awesome and creepy blood moon? Unfortunately, the eclipse was not visible in Greece but we still got to see a very nice full moon rising. The sky was cloudy but that helped to get a more interesting image than just the moon in a simple black sky.
To get this shot i used my Canon 60D with the Jupiter 135mm + a Vivitar teleconverter x2 . First i took a shot exposed for the clouds (shutter speed 0.8/s, f/8, Iso 320) and then a shot exposed for the moon (shutter speed 1/40s, f/8, Iso 320). In Photoshop i masked the moon and placed it on the photo of the clouds. I added some contrast to make the image more dramatic and also added a warmer tone…
How did the full moon make you feel? Did any of you transform into a werewolf or something? 😛 This eclipse is supposed to affect us all in very significant ways…I don’t know if i believe that but while i was looking at the moon, all i could think of were the lyrics to one of my favorite songs by Laleh…
I’m walking on the streets like a wolf
The people, the city, the colors
This world is in mad hands
The world that I’m so much a part of
It’s a beauty when the streets are wet
There’s a sense of hope and change to it
And I love it how the moon shines
But will our stars align? Will our stars align?
Looking to the sky, looking for a sign…
If you don’t know her, look her up, she’s an amazing artist. A true artist, as she produced, written, recorded, engineered and performed all of her songs by herself. I can only wish to meet her one day and would love to get the chance to work with her on something really creative. Her music and lyrics not only inspire me immensely but also speak to my soul in ways that no other artist ever did. Every cell inside me feels alive and connected to the present and to my feelings when i hear her music…Oh yes, this post was about the full moon…Ehm, you can guess what i was listening to while making this post and i got carried away 😀 Hope you enjoyed this…
