Paradise on Earth – Part I

Β  Kavourotripes is a well hidden paradise located in the middle of Sithonia. Even though access is hard, it’s a very famous destination and a lot of people visit it to enjoy the magical turquoise water and the contrasting white rocks.

Β  I was hearing a lot about this place and it’s not very far away from where i live but believe me no matter what you hear, or how many gorgeous photos you see, nothing compares to the experience of actually being there. I can confirm that now that i’ve been there πŸ™‚ It was magical. A paradise on earth. So many saturated colors, your eyes would have a hard time to conceive that they are real…

Β  To reach this well hidden gem, you need to leave your car in a dirt road in the forest and walk all the way down. The most approachable place is the most crowded as well. It’s a little beach enclave, the only place there with sand and even has a little bar and a ship that transfers people to a second beach enclave many meters away. Since i treasure my personal space and prefer to hear the tunes of cicadas instead of babies crying and people’s cacophonic compositions, we took the hard approach and walked a lot to reach this beautiful area pictured in the gallery below. There was a lonely tree at the edge of the rocky cliff, providing some much needed shade and an excellent place to rest.

Β  I took a few photos of the surrounding environment but it didn’t take long, to decide that it was time for that long awaited swim. We climbed down some rocks and left our stuff down there at the water level. Some flat rocks, provided an excellent surface for that but my tender feet still complained about their roughness. There were many sea urchins around adding a bit of danger to the whole experience but with waters so crystal clear you could easily see where it was safe to step to.

Β  Need i explain, the feeling of refreshed happiness when my sunburned skin was surrounded by the therapeutic turquoise water? I leave that for your imagination…And i’ll end this post here leaving you wanting more…Cause we all know that part I means that there is a part II coming up soon…

Ormos Panagias

Hello my dear friends πŸ˜€

Β  First stop on our short tour of Sithonia, is a place called Ormos Panagias. It’s not a village, as it’s considered to be a part of Agios Nikolaos, a little village located a few kilometeres north, to the mainland. But Ormos Panagias has many accommodations and attracts a lot of people. It’s famous for its fresh fish, calamari and octopus, as the fishermen there use the port a lot. But it’s probably best known for the Mount Athos boat tours that leave daily from the port. We hadΒ  to make a quick stop there to snap a few photos since the waters were simply irresistible. No time for a quick swim though, we had to move on to even better places πŸ˜‰

A taste of Loutra

Hello my dear friends! πŸ˜€

Β  Next stop is a little community called Loutra. Loutra literally means baths/bathhouse! The village got its name from the hot springs that exist there, famous for their healing properties. The first spring was discovered by a farmer who was looking for sulfur to sprinkle on his vines. After the end of World War II, residents blasted the rocks with dynamite and out of them gushed hydrosulfide with a water temperature of 39C/102F. There used to be volcano in the area and that’s what makes these springs so unique.

Β  Unfortunately i do not have any photos of the springs, or the luxurious spa but i can tell you this…Hydrosylfide stinks!!! No, i mean it really stinks! My dad used to visit the springs and i still remember how he smelled like a rotten egg combined with a hot fart. I hope you were not eating while reading this, if you were i’m really sorry…but it’s true πŸ˜›

Β  I’ll try to make it up to you with some photos of the area around Loutra. Click on them to start a full screen gallery view πŸ™‚

A taste of Skioni

Β  Nea SkioniΒ  is a little village located in the peninsula of Kassandra, Halkidiki, Greece.Β  Nea Skioni was established in 1918 and used to be a fisherman village. It is named after the ancient city of Skioni, whose site was nearby to the east. According to Thucydides, Skioni was built by the Pelleneans from Peloponnese on their way back from the war of Troy. The village is now a popular tourist destination and has one of the prettiest ports in the area.

Timelapse: Thessaloniki Sunsets

Hello my friends! πŸ˜€

Β  I’ve been feeling extra creative the last few days so i decided to gather some rather old footage and make a timelapse with it. It’s mostly an experiment with tracking and panning within Sony Vegas Pro…I think it can create an interesting result. I will be working on my extra epic sky timelapse now…It takes forever because iΒ  must remove the birds, frame by frame or else you’d be seeing black dots all over the place. Being a perfectionist, i can’t live with that πŸ˜›

Β  Let me know what you think of this timelapse. Any comments are welcome. The quality was greatly degraded because of YouTube, maybe i didn’t choose the best export settings but oh well πŸ™‚

Thessaloniki waterfront II

Hello my friends πŸ˜€

Β  I’ve been busy editing the photos i took during my last visit in Thessaloniki. Most of them were under clear blue sky, which makes it harder for me, as i’m used to process my photos a certain way for dark and cloudy skies. I’ll be posting some individual photos until i finish with the editing and then i’ll make a big post πŸ™‚

Β  So this is the renovated waterfront. I really like this part, it used to be concrete slabs, mostly crooked and broken in many places. This definitely looks modern and more sophisticated. The little water pools are illuminated at night, which creates a beautiful effect. The marble elements create a nice contrast and give out a bit of the classic Greek character. At the edge of the water, there’s an installation of a big steel moon. The moon is also illuminated at night and it’s visible from quite a distance.

Β  Today we have 36C and the temperature keeps rising, so if those marble pools were actual pools, i’d just sit in there with my lemon iced tea and not move a finger πŸ˜›
