Ho ho ho!!! Christmas is almost here and it finally snowed in Vienna! ❄️ After the Bella photos i had planned to post some autumn photos but i actually found a job and since the 1. December I’ve been working full-time as a graphic designer and photographer, so no time again. But i’ll keep my promise and post often, even if the seasons doesn’t match! 😛 For now enjoy some snowed up Vienna photos! Cheers!

Warmth in the heart of the winter

Warmth in the heart of the winter by V-Light Photography
05.01.2016 | Palmenhaus Schönbrunn, Vienna, Austria

Hello my lovely friends,

2016, started with snow in Vienna.❄ It started to snow exactly when the year changed but didn’t last long. Then on the 4th it snowed again and this time transformed the city in a white wonder. Viennese people seem to always complain when it snows cause it gets all yucky and brown very quickly, especially on all the main streets and parks. That’s why, one must either wake up early and go out before all the other people ruin the peaceful scenery, or just go to places where not much people go anyway.

I thought i would revisit the Palmenhaus in Schönbrunn (click here and here to see it in its summer glory). I hoped the snow would still be fresh there, since you are not allowed to step on the grass and i was right 😀 Of course many people were there, visiting the Palmenhaus but i found my angle and a garden with no footsteps and voila 😉

When it’s so cold, where do you find comfort? What do you like to do? Obviously, i go out and take photos as i silently scream when i’m not able to bend my fingers under the gloves anymore and successfully press the shutter-release button but still smile cause my warmth and comfort comes from knowing i’m going home to a warm cup of tea and that i also created some nice photos i can share with the world.

Snow fascinates me! Maybe it’s because where i grew up in Greece it rarely snows and when it does it’s very little. Or maybe it’s because snow makes everything look so much different and all becomes so quiet… 😍

The beautiful Hundertwasser Haus surrounded by snow! 😀 I finally had the rare opportunity to take a photo of it without people walking all around but unfortunately the cars parked next to it, seem to always be there! It has become one of my goals to take a photo of this building without any cars and people around! One day…

Hello my dear friends,

Nope, it’s not snowing again. After the “snowstorm”, we had so many amazing and sunny days, with clear blue skies and i must admit i spent most of my time taking really long walks, 15km every day at least and kinda lacked any motivation to sit down and edit grey and snowy photos. Today it’s been raining so i thought it was about time, old snowy photos are coming up!!!  ❄❄❄

Yesterday we had a little snowstorm in Vienna! 😀 I might have been the only person who was really excited and was running outside with a huge smile, ignoring the strong wind and the dense snowfall! What a day it was! 😀 Today it is all gone but since yours truly spend more than 3 hours taking photos yesterday, there are many shots to be posted in the following days! 😉

P.s. The Rainsleeve thingy i bought from eBay to protect my camera from rain/snow, worked quite well. I had to tape the lens opening side on the lens hood itself cause the drawstring didn’t secure tightly enough and would move exposing the lens when i focused…but for 7$ / 2 pieces, you can’t complain 🙂

Good morning my friends!!! 😀 It’s snowing again in Vienna and it’s a beautiful morning indeed! I cannot wait to go out and shoot some snowy photos! For now, here’s a photo of the Florido Tower in an icy surrounding. ❄ The waterpark in Floridsdorf is really a great place for photos and if you have a telephoto lens i would recommend to do some birdwatching, you’d be surprised by the variety of birds that inhabit this area!!! 🐦

And there was snow…

Hello my dear friends,

As you probably already know, i spend my Christmas in upper Austria…and there was snow…a lot of snow! 😀 In the next days i will upload some of the photos i took there before we return to the usual Vienna posts. So this was actually my first contact with snow after many years of seeing none in Greece. You can imagine that i was ecstatic but also really not well prepared! Thankfully i had my uncle lent me some warm gloves, hiking shoes and gaiters (German: Gamaschen, i finally managed to learn that word!😂) for not getting all wet, cause the snow at some parts of the mountain was knee high! I was ready for some serious action!

It was still snowing relentlessly when we decided to go for a hike and while it was really beautiful it made taking photos very hard. I ended up taking most photos with my mobile phone (coming up on the next post) and only a few with my DSLR. My one and only Canon 60D is not really weather sealed so i couldn’t risk it. What do you use to protect your camera from getting all wet? Cause the umbrella sure didn’t work, with being windy and all that, my camera got covered in snow in a matter of seconds! I dared to take only a few shots, before putting it back in my backpack…but my uncle had enough time to snap a cool backstage photo 😎 Say, snowcovered-icy-cheeeeeeese!!!❆❆❆

The towers of nature

The Towers of Nature by V-Light
08.01.2015 | Donaupark, Vienna, Austria

Hello my lovely people,

So i listened to many of your recent comments suggesting that black and white would be a good way to go for snowy landscapes with an empty and mundane sky and even though i’m not a big fan of B&W, (i love my crazy colors), i gave it a try. This is another panoramic photo, made by combining 8 horizontal frames at 17mm, taken handheld. I think B&W suits it perfectly since there was barely any color in the original photo. Those trees were huge by the way and from that perspective the 252meter tall Donau Tower seems tiny…

Thank you for all for your suggestions and thoughtful comments. Sometimes we get so stuck in our own routine and it’s just great to receive such beautiful suggestions ♥

Winter is here

Hello my dear friends,

Winter has been going on strong for some weeks now in Austria. After Christmas it has snowed a few times inside Vienna as well and of course i was out taking photos every day. The reason why you haven’t seen any of these photos yet, is because i need to reinvent my editing process to make it suitable for snow. Snow is something new to me so i need to find new ways to capture it as i envision. I took some days off to refresh my brain and eyes and now i’m back to work! 😀 Brace yourselves! Winter photos are coming!

Let’s start with something recent! This is a panoramic photo i took yesterday, 9 vertical frames, handheld. It was snowing at the moment and one thing i noticed as a newbie about this kind of weather is that when you have such a gray sky it’s really hard to make it look nice. But until now i didn’t have the luck of having a nice blue sky with fluffy clouds while the earth is still snowed! So this will do 🙂

Also i wanted to say a big thanks for all your lovely comments on my Hazy Sunset photo. You really gave me some food for thought and all of your suggestions were actually great! I’m very thankful to have such amazing and caring followers on my blog! ♥ Hope you are all having a nice start in 2015! Cheers! 😀
