The Raiffeisen Tower, built in 2010-2012, conquers position number 25 in the list of the highest buildings in Vienna. Measuring 78meters height and featuring 22 floors that house only offices, it might not win you over with its size but for me it’s a winner when it comes to design! A creation of architects: Dieter Hayde, Ernst Maurer, Radovan Tajder, the Raiffeisen Tower is a beauty standing right next to the Donau canal, reflecting its mood and mirroring every precious moment of the day.
So this is one of those photos, where no matter what editing style i choose, something just doesn’t sit right in my perfectionist eye. I still like the composition and it’s my first panorama using my new tripod, so i had to upload it 😛 I tried to turn it into black and white since the colours here are not that great but it still didn’t sit right…What do you think? Do you like it?

I love panoramic photos because they can give you a better sense of the surroundings. You’ve already seen Urania and Uniqa in previous posts but now you can see them together, isn’t that cool? That was a handheld panorama and unfortunately no matter what software i used some parts didn’t connect that smoothly. You can click on the image to view it in a larger size and there it is more noticeable. I bought a new compact tripod that i can carry with me so i will try to make some better panoramas for you to enjoy next 😀
When you think about Vienna, you think classic and romantic but Vienna is making a move towards the new era. Skyscrapers and modern glass buildings are making their presence known in the Vienna skyline and i think they blend rather well with the rest of the environment.
The Uniqa Tower was build in a little less than 3 years (October 2001 – June 2004) by the architect Heinz Neumann. It’s not one of the highest buildings, at 75meters it ranks number 28 in the list but i still think it’s quite impressive. We will visit many, if not all of the top ranked buildings in the Vienna highest list in future posts. I cannot lie, i’m a sucker when it comes to shiny reflecting things! 😀
Exploring the neighborhood has been really fun and rewarding so far. I guess living outside of the city center has its advantages! 😉 I cannot get enough of the beautiful nature that surrounds the area and i already envision these scenes with snow! Floridotower is an office complex located in Floridsdorf (21st District of Vienna) and it reaches the height of 113 meters! More photos of the water park coming soon! 😀
The OTE Tower is the second most recognizable building in Thessaloniki after the famous landmark the “White Tower”. At 70 meters height, it’s certainly a unique building with a very modern design considering that it was build in 1965. It was designed by Greek architect A. Anastasiadis and was opened in 1966. It was mainly used for broadcasts on a Greek Television network. Today it is used by the Cosmote cellular mobile telephone network.
It’s has 4 compartments and each was designed for a specific use. There is an elevator in the center of the structure that makes it easy to access each floor. Of course there are stairs too but you must be feeling really brave to take them. There’s not much info about the usage of each level, so i’ll quote what i remember. The lower level is used as storage space, the second level was supposed to be used for exhibitions but that rarely happens, the third level was the broadcast studio and the fourth level was always the most appealing one.
On the fourth and highest level there’s a cafe/restaurant that has a rotating floor offering a 360 degree view of the city. It completes a full rotation in about 45 minutes if i remember correctly. While the view is really amazing and everyone should experience it at least once, there’s a big debate about the quality and the prices of the cafe/restaurant. The place seems to be dirty and is in a serious need for renovation. When it comes to prices paying 11 dollars for a cappuccino will certainly make you think twice about coming again. Most people won’t even think about it again…
It’s a shame to see such a beautiful and unique building lose the charm it should have. But then again…It’s not the only building in Greece that is not treated as deserved…We have so much beauty and we let it fade away… People need to change and realize what they are wasting…Wasting a bright future is not something we should take lightly and i’m not only talking about buildings here. Wake up people…
