I’m very happy to share with you this exhibition that i was blessed to be a part of. PhotoSoc is the photographic society of the University of Edinburgh that was founded in 1890 and it’s the older and largest university photographic society in the UK. FOAPTH (Photography Club of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki) is an independent photography society based in Greece that was founded in 1987. For more than 25 years, the society has organized photography lessons, trips, exhibitions and other photography related activities.
2014 marks FOAPTH’s first collaboration with PhotoSoc, with an entry of 15 photos for the “Elements” category. As a member of FOAPTH, i participated with 2 photos, choosing the element of water. The opening of the exhibition took place at the Mash House in Edinburgh, on the 29th of March. I had no way to be there but luckily one of the FOAPTH members, Vasilis, had moved to Edinburgh a few months ago and took some photos of the exhibition.
Now my photos can brag about having been in Edinburgh! One day, i hope i can say i’ve been to Edinburgh myself! 😀 Who knows what the future holds but one thing we do know, 15 photos of PhotoSoc members will in turn be displayed in the annual FOAPTH exhibition in late May in Thessaloniki, Greece.
I really love water, in all its forms and i was really looking forward to seeing this 80 meter tall waterfall, one of the biggest in Balkans. Unfortunately it is a seasonal waterfall and there was barely any water there. I can imagine that during spring, after all the snow has melted this must be a really nice sight to see. I must absolutely go back there one day soon…
This amazing place still resonates in my dreams. When i got there i couldn’t believe what i was seeing, so much beauty, so much color. I have only uploaded 2 or 3 photos of this trip even though it was back in 2011, mostly because i couldn’t decide on how to post-process the photos. The colors are already very saturated without any edit and back then i had a Canon 450D with the 18-55mm kit lens which was failing all the time, shutting down when taking a long exposure so i didn’t take the photos i could have taken. I don’t think i’ll be able to visit this place soon, it’s very far away and hard to reach so i thought to start working on some photos that are kinda good. What do you think about this one? I’d appreciate any feedback 🙂
The beauty of northern Greece because Greece is not only about the sea and the islands. I need to make a feature post with a collection of photos from my visit to Skra, i have too many photos to post individually 🙂
I took this photo in August of 2011, while camping on the beautiful island of Samothraki, Greece. It was a hot summer morning and we started the hike to the famous “Vathres” of the island. On the way there, we got to see some nice waterfalls and many little lagoons. It was really beautiful but also people crowded. As we got higher, the hike was getting more and more demanding so there were less people around…And then we got on the top. Words could not describe. After hours of walking and hiking under the hot sun…This literally felt and looked like paradise. We were alone up there…All this beauty just for us! We immediately threw our backpacks on the ground and dove in the refreshing water. I actually took this photo while being in the water. I placed a mini tripod i had with me on a rock and used an aperture of f/22 and a 2.5 second exposure to make the water look silky. A few little specks of water on the lens created this weird effect that makes the image look more heavenly. The only post-process i did was to add a bit of contrast and sharpness. A magical place indeed…
